Microsoft® Excel 2007 Macros Crash Course:  Learn VBA Programming in Two Days!

Course Summary

Attend this two day class to learn how to use Macros and VBA procedures to automate work in Microsoft Excel 2007.  Practice exercises include everything from using the Macro recorder to modifying VBA procedures with the Visual Basic Editor to practical strategies for deploying VBA solutions and custom menu items to make your VBA procedures easy to run.  This course combines Excel Macro Programming Level I and Level II into a two-day format, so participants should choose between the one-day classes or the two-day Crash Course.

 

Overview

Save time and increase productivity by automating mundane and repetitive tasks with Macros and VBA procedures.  Develop a strong understanding of the Excel 2007 object model used in VBA.  Learn advanced Variable concepts.  Exploit VBA tools and functions. 

 

Prerequisites

Excel 2007 features a new tab/Ribbon user interface and a new XML file format.  Learn these new features in an Office 2007 New Features training program or equivalent knowledge/experience.  Intermediate knowledge of Excel including business modeling, list creation/maintenance and building charts and graphs or equivalent knowledge/experience.  No programming background required.

  • Use the VB Recorder to create macros

  • Learn and practice six different ways to run macros

  • Learn how to open the Visual Basic Editor (VBE)

  • Understand the VBE interface

  • Use 4 simple rules for learning the Visual Basic for Application language (VBA)

  • Practice simple edits in VBA using messaging tools, simple branching statements and a looping construct

  • Design, program and test a custom dialog box in the VBE

  • Understand VBA Events and practice automating automatic tasks!

  • Developing custom Function in VBA

  • Using the Object Browser in the VBE

  • Declaring and scoping variables

  • Using Arrays

  • Understanding object variables and using the Set statement

  • Learn the features, benefits, differences and syntax of VBA's four primary decision structures

  • Understanding the scope of procedures and functions

  • Using loop structures including For Each - Next loops and four types of Do loops

  • Using VBA functions

  • Learn how to build an Add-In for Excel

Skills acquired in this class are immediately transferable to Word, PowerPoint and Access!
